Biodynamic agriculture

at high altitude

Organic farming since 1998

When François Schneider set eyes on Tenuta la Novella, his wish was to keep the estate’s wild and natural state intact.
After twenty years of abandonment, the choice of organic farming seemed inevitable, as the estate had never been treated with synthetic products.

The cultivated lands are isolated by thick forests and are therefore protected from any external contamination. 

The altitude allows us to limit the different antagonists that can attack our crops, without using insecticides, pesticides and synthetic products.

The management of spontaneous grassing, the practice of green manure and tillage provide fertile and vital soils. Fertilization is based on organic products and cow manure. 

The result is a more fertile land, a healthier environment to live and work in.
The goal is to make the most authentic and natural products possible for the final consumer.

The estate obtained organic certification for its products and cultivation already in 1998.

Biodynamics - the search for a natural balance


Philosopher Rudolf Steiner laid the foundations for Biodynamics during a conference on agriculture in 1924. It consists above all of considering the farm in a holistic manner; that is, as an organism with various productions that cannot be separated from each other.

Plant and mineral preparations (500p, 501, Maria Thun, nettle, valerian...) are used to maintain the soil’s fertility and vitality and stimulate the plants' defenses.

The lunar cycles are observed for the work in the vineyard and the cellar.

Manual work is preferred to mechanization.

On a living soil, healthy and naturally balanced grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with the utmost respect and without additives, with the aim of producing wines that reflect the terroir of the altitude from which they come. 

The first biodynamic practices

In 2009, the first biodynamic practices were introduced; in 2018 we joined the SIVCB (Syndicat International des Vignerons en Culture Biodynamique). 

The first certified biodynamic vintage with the BIODYVIN label is the 2019 vintage.

Certified Organic Quality

We farm our vineyards and olive groves according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture: no pesticides, just respect for nature and for those who choose us.

Working in pairs with Nature

Our products are born at 550 meters above sea level, in a highly biodiverse environment where the mountains of Chianti Classico gently slope down to the Ema Valley towards Florence.

Artisanal and Limited Production

The richness of our highly biodiverse terroir is enhanced by a low intervention approach
and a sensitive artisanal touch.
